Holiday Poems From The Prince Of New York
Known to but a few
Santa is a Jew
His name is the Prince
Of Royal blood he is not
yet that has not stopped
his unprecedented rise from the slop.
What follows is true
for the sad and the blue
or in some cases of non-ending spending
the Holiday tidings spread hope but anew.
- Boston Red Sox:
Theo’s viscera
cramped like in terror
when he lost on Teixeira.
The pipeline is fertile
the competition brutal
their appetite is whet
and still a solid bet.
- Tampa Bay Rays:
Believing the hype
is fodder for tripe.
- New York Yankees:
Spend as you wish
and here is the dish
all is okay
just ditch the bouquets.
Absence of din
it would be a sin
to ignore the truth.
Fire Ricciardi and all will hail
the long overdue
Blue Jays fire sale.
- Baltimore Orioles:
On the right track
if they follow the tack
it is no great mystery
when surveying the history
and listen to the tales
of Andy MacPhail.
- Chicago White Sox:
A wayward home?
Remember the tome
The GM has the skills
to impart increased thrills.
- Minnesota Twins:
Develop the pitching
finding a bat
and the possibility exists
for a championship hat.
How Shapiro won with Borowski
is a mystery to all
so it should be understood
that he can win with Wood.
- Kansas City Royals:
Ill-advised trades
required some shades
the crush has gone cold
the fans need blindfolds.
- Detroit Tigers:
Stars at every position
dealt no precision.
Management at odds
a different strategy
forsaking big money
is a disaster in the making.
Boras’s game
is oh-so-lame
the Angels prefer deadlines
to making splashy headlines.
- Texas Rangers:
Slow and deliberate
is Nolan Ryan’s way
that doesn’t mean
there is a brighter day.
- Oakland Athletics:
Genius only goes so far
when you need a new engine in the car.
- Seattle Mariners:
Even an eye for talent
needs goggles and a hood
when clearing out
rotting deadwood.
- Philadelphia Phillies:
A title was won
a town was trashed
the leader of the battle
retreated to Seattle
losing their heft
going too far to the left.
A new ballpark
a financial scandal
but dwindling markets
help nail their targets.
- Florida Marlins:
The whining of others
is pale in comparison
when one listens
to the Marlins system.
- Atlanta Braves:
Shut out by the markets
the boss cries foul
the worst thing to do
is throw in the towel.
- Washington Nationals:
An appealing market
an aggressive attempt
the organization
is still quite unkempt.
- Chicago Cubs:
World Series or bust
yet it is a must
to fill that big hole
with skill and deft
a bat from the left.
- Milwaukee Brewers:
The team was shining
the owner now whining
their world will be spinning
from their brief experience at winning.
- Houston Astros:
The owner attracts criticism
yet that cynicism
was nearly proven wrong
with a streak so long
that drew great attention
and sent them to contention.
- St. Louis Cardinals:
The manager wants players
the ownership naysayers
if their commitment lags
La Russa packs his bags.
- Cincinnati Reds:
The stat-geeks fist shakers
at manager Dusty Baker
but young players abound
even they may come around.
- Pittsburgh Pirates:
Two Indian pitchers
are somewhat richer
the Pirates organization
should move to that nation.
- Los Angeles Dodgers:
C.C. was knocking
the Dodgers were locking
Manny may not return
and Torre will burn.
- Arizona Diamondbacks:
Slashing costs
a season lost
the swings and misses
shattering wishes.
- Colorado Rockies:
Living on a hot streak
and a belief in God
spending a little money
shouldn’t be so hard.
From the wreckage of Bonds
what were the odds
that a diminutive righty
would become so mighty?
- San Diego Padres:
The fans have grown hoarse
from the owner’s divorce
the team is a nightmare
the front office warrants a frown
as their on-field product
sinks down and down and down.
