Prince Fielder Will Win The NL MVP

With all due respect to all the other candidates who are receiving poorly disguised plugs from their respective broadcasters and beat reporters, I don’t see how anyone can possibly think that there are any other candidates who deserve to win the MVP over Prince Fielder. While he’s in a decent lineup, the Brewers don’t have another hitter that would prevent Fielder from being pitched around; he’s hit clutch home runs all season and is going to end up with at least 50; he’s a better fielder than people gave him credit for on his arrival and he’s a leader in the clubhouse.
The MVP usually goes to the guy who not only has the best stats, but has carried his team to heights greater than the sum of their talents would indicate was to be expected. (This is why I think pitchers should be considered for the award more frequently than they are.) David Wright has had a fine second half, but his numbers are closer to those of Ryan Braun than they are of Fielder; Matt Holliday is probably one of the top five players in the game and will one day win an MVP, but not this year; the Phillies Jimmy Rollins is a candidate who I think will come in second to Fielder; Chase Utley may have cost himself the award when he broke his hand; Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols have been having off-years (for them). In looking at everything each player has accomplished this year, there’s only one choice, and that’s Prince Fielder.

i agree…i’m frankly surprised when i hear other guys being touted for the award.

BTW i read and enjoy your blog every day, even if i don’t comment.

David Wright’s numbers are far better overall. His stolen bases…on base percentage and average are what should be highlighted. Home Runs shouldnt matter as much as they do. Besides the Mets will most likely make the playoffs while the Brewers have fallen off. Fielder has led that team but his homeruns shouldnt matter. Wright is the better overall player.
